France: Battlefields, Paris and the Cote d'Azure

Join us as we explore France from top to bottom. We start in the north investigating the World War Two battle sites where Canadian soldiers and their allies landed on the beaches of northern France and eventually pushed the Germans back and out of France. They are honoured here with monuments and cemeteries for the many young Canadians who gave their lives to allow France to achieve its freedom from the Nazis.

We then spend time in Paris becoming familiar with the many famous landmarks and the general ambience of Parisian culture in the springtime.

Next we travel south to the French Riviera where we will explore the medieval towns and city centres as well as the modern cultural offerings of this very famous stretch of coast.

You will return home with a very comprehensive knowledge of this famous country and memories to last a lifetime!

Day 1: Depart Canada.

Day 2: Arrive in Paris. We then travel by modern first class highway coach to the town of Bretteville sur Laize where we will visit the Canadian war cemetery, one of many in France where Canadian soldiers were buried upon giving their lives to free France and Europe from the grip of the Nazis. Our next stop is the town of Bayeux where we will view its famous tapestry. This embroidery chronicles the Norman conquest of England by William the Conqueror in 1066. The embroidery is a valuable document of the history and the costumes of the time. Tradition attributes it to Queen Matilda, wife of William the Conqueror, and her handmaidens. Overnight Bayeux (B,L,D)

Day 3: Today is spent touring the beaches where Canadian and Allied troops came ashore in the battle to free France. We will visit the Arromanches Museum and the Juno Beach Centre which document the Normandy landings. Another of the many Canadian war cemeteries is Europe is located nearby at Beny-sur Mer. We will stop here and pay our respect to the young men of Canada buried here.
